Labor of Love by Brian CalifanoAs we pass through Labor Day weekend and mark the unofficial end of summer, I like to look back and reflect on what it takes to labor as an entrepreneur. Although all types of workers are honored on this holiday weekend, I would like to give a special salute to the entrepreneurs and small business owners out there who strive to support their family and positively impact their country.

We work for our families — the source of passion and raison d’être. And we work for our country — the greatest country in the world that allows us the opportunity to create business and generate jobs for fellow Americans.

Entrepreneurship is wonderful, and here’s why:

      1. You can create a company in your image and vision.
      2. You can create jobs for your peers and the younger generation, knowing that your actions will impact the future.
      3. You can choose your clients instead of receiving assignments.
      4. You can have the flexibility to work a 12-hour day and see your child’s sporting event on the same day.
      5. Practice your patience. You’ll need it!
      6. You can feel excitement when your actions directly help a client achieve a personal or professional goal.
      7. You will inspire others.
      8. See your daily work reap benefits now and in the future.
      9. You can establish a team of people that are more than just employee numbers or paychecks to be delivered.
      10. Go to sleep every night knowing that you pursue your passion, optimize talents, and exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit.

Being an entrepreneur is no easy picnic; but over this Labor Day weekend, I will be reflecting on my blessings: founding my own company, surrounding myself with positive people, and working with clients that help me realize my career goals and ambitions.

I wish all of our readers a happy and healthy Labor Day weekend — and may you find the energy to go full-force into the last third of the year.
